OUR CORAL NURSERIES ON SOUTH MALE ATOLL, MALDIVES

diseased corals 

We grow corals from small clippings taken from larger donor colonies and fragments of detached corals

  • The fragments are attached to nylon ropes or plastic mesh tables with cable ties
  • ​New tissue and skeleton quickly grows over the plastic 
  • The fragments grow and produce new branches 
  • After 12-18 months, the nursery grown corals are transplanted onto a degraded reef
  • Corals of the same species are planted in clusters to enhance their reproduction
